PRSD to Appoint Tax Commission
Attend a Special Act 1 Forum on Aug. 30
(Gibsonia, PA) When it comes to financial matters, are you interested in guiding Pine-Richland School District? If so, here’s your chance to be appointed to the district’s tax commission.
Allegheny Intermediate Unit’s Assistant Executive Director for Finance Patrick Sable spoke to a group on August 30 about serving on the commission. He helped participants understand the implications of Act 1, which is a new law designed to help distribute gambling money to school districts for property tax relief as it becomes available.
As you may recall, many school districts opted out of ACT 72, because of a required budget referendum requirement. All districts will receive gaming revenues under Act 1. It stipulates that the public, through referendum, must decide whether to shift from property taxes to an increase in wage taxes or personal income taxes.
In the end, the district tax commission will be responsible for making a recommendation to the board concerning a referendum for the adoption of an income tax to offset property taxes.
