Eden Hall
Summer Reading Program and Reading Lists
To encourage students to read over the summer
break, the Eden Hall PTO is sponsoring a Summer Reading Program for interested students. It can be
a challenge to find material that is at an appropriate reading level and also
suitable for children at this age level. With this in mind, we are
offering a "favorite reading" list for students entering Eden Hall in
the fall. Essentially, this list has some suggestions for interesting,
appropriate-level books for summer reading suggested by the faculty at Eden
Hall. All students are welcome to read from this list. Please see
the grade-level lists below.
We will sponsor a breakfast in the fall for students who read at least two
books and complete a project about one of the books. The
project would involve making a poster to illustrate the theme, synopsis of the
story, or other relevant characteristics about the book. Students should
also write a brief overview of the book, similar to what you might read on a
book jacket, describing the book and whether she/he would recommend this book
to others. This overview should be attached to the poster.
These posters will be due the first week of school and will be displayed
at Eden Hall to highlight the many fun, interesting books the students read
over the summer.
This is an optional
activity that we think all students will enjoy. Have fun reading!
The
Recommended Reading Lists that are part of the Eden Hall PTO Summer Reading
Program are not specifically endorsed by Pine-Richland School District.
These books are simply suggestions for parents. We
encourage you to screen these books, just as you would any others, to
ensure that their content reflects your family values. Encouraging summer
reading is our goal.
