Hance Elementary Earns Highmark Healthy High 5 School Challenge
School Awarded $3,500

Highmark Foundation awarded Hance Elementary School $3,500 for 2009-2010 with funding provided by the Highmark Healthy High 5 School Challenge Grant. Grant applicant Terry Lea Wentz, CRNP, says the Pacesetters Program will meet several objectives including nutritional awareness and practice.

Attention 3rd Grade Parents:  Dental Exam Forms Due October 1
If you have not yet submitted your dental exam form for your third grader, please do so by October 1.  Click here for the form.

Important Information About Over-the-Counter Medications
The cold season will be here before we know it.  Our school district's medication policy states that any medication, including over-the-counter medications cannot be administered by the school unless prescribed by a physician on the medication formPlease do not send any cough drops or over-the-counter medications with your child unless accompanied by the physician medication form.

School Walk for DiabetesInformation regarding our School Walk for Diabetes was sent home with your child after the assembly on September 17.  Click here for the parent letter.  Please return the sponsor envelope with the signed consent form (click here for a copy) and any donations collected in the envelope to the School Nurse by Friday, October  2.  Online donations can also be made by clicking here.

Fantastic Fun Friday & Popcorn Dayz
October 2
Our first FFF is October 2.  It's Crazy Hair Day!  Have fun!

Popcorn Dayz will also be on October 2.  Bring 25 cents to school for a bag of popcorn during lunch.  For those with allergies, fruit snacks will be available.  Popcorn must remain in the cafeteria.  Can you help?  If you're interested in helping during the lunch hours, email

Make a Break for Make-A-Wish

Make-A-WishThe total collected for this event was $1,064.12. The classroom winners are Burnsworth (AM Kindergarten), Heilman (1st grade), Juliano (2nd grade), and Banas (3rd grade). Thanks to everyone for their donations!

The teacher assembly will be on Friday, September 25, at 2 p.m.  AM Kindergarten parents are invited to bring their children back to school for this event.

 

Destination Book Fair
September 28-October 2
Scholastic Book FairBook Fair will be open next week during library periods and at the Ice Cream Social.  Pre-orders will be taken for Diary of a Wimpy Kid IV (release date is October 12).  Donations will be taken for One for Books with proceeds benefiting Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Most critical volunteer needs:

  • Wednesday, September 30, 2-2:45 p.m. (Heilman)
  • Friday, October 2, 1:15-1:45 p.m. (Juliano)

Win a Popcorn Party -- Contest Ends October 16!
Box TopThe classroom with the highest number of Box Tops per grade will win an afternoon popcorn party.    Have your child put the Box Tops into the box in their classroom.  Contest ends Friday, October 16, with winners being announced on October 19.  Questions?  Email Debbie Frey

Save Labels to Earn for Hance!
Campbell'sClip your labels!  A large soup can collection bin is located outside the PTO office.  Your support is appreciated as funds raised from Campbell's and Box Tops are used to purchase indoor and outdoor recess equipment. 

 

Fall Fundraiser
October 1-16
Look for fall fundraiser packets to come home with your child on October 1.  This catalog and cookie dough fundraiser will run through October 16.  Check out the packet for ways to set up internet ordering and how your child can win daily prizes.  Questions?  Email Kathy Bauer or Nikki Woodrow.  

 

Fall Family Movie Night
Friday, October 16
Chicken LittleJoin us for a family night scheduled for October 16 in the gym.  Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.; Chicken Little will begin at 7 p.m.  Bring blankets and chairs...even wear PJs!  A concession stand will be open.  Price is $1 per person; $5 maximum per family.  Tickets will be sold at the door the night of the event. Questions?
