Students Help Create
Life-Saving Software

Three Pine-Richland High School students and the Wexford Volunteer Fire Company are working together to help save lives.

Ben Whiting along with his sister Taylor Whiting and friend Matt Hickey were at a backyard barbecue bonfire when the fire got out of hand. While they were able to snuff out the fire, they realized that an autistic relative was still left confused.

That inspired them to create software that would alert firefighters that a special needs person was on the premises of the site they were responding to during a fire call.

The Wexford VFC, which serves areas of the Pine Community, is asking for families who have members of their family with special needs to register their information online at www.wexfordvfc.com or at the township municipal building, which is located at 230 Pearce Mill Road in Wexford. Community members are being asked to mail the forms to the Wexford VFC, 122 Wexford Bayne Rd., Wexford, PA 15090.
