Hance Elementary School
Hosts MS Walk
October 3, 2007
On Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007 the 4th & 5th grade students had the opportunity to participate in the School Walk for Multiple Sclerosis. We had a wonderful fall day to enjoy the walk.
The School Walk for MS was this year’s chosen fund-raising opportunity targeted to promote community service, school spirit and an opportunity to promote healthy living. We chose October 3, 2007 to coordinate with PANA’s (Pennsylvania Advocates for Nutrition and Activity) Walk to School Day.
The MS walk raised awareness for MS and the need for further research for a cure to this disease. As part of our preparation for the walk, Hance 4 th & 5 th grade students had an opportunity to meet and ask questions with two individuals who have been diagnosed with the disease of MS. Also, the National MS Society provided an excellent educational film entitled “Timmy’s Journey to Understanding MS” which the children had an opportunity to view.
Students gave up their recess time to walk. The Northern Regional police were on hand to ensure a safe walking route. Students were asked to collect pledges for their commitment to walk.
We are proud and excited that Hance has again been so generous. On this our 6 th year of school walking, Hance has pledged $3,58 for Multiple Sclerosis research!
This event could not have been such a success without the wonderful cooperation and spirit of giving demonstrated by our parents, children and staff at Hance Elementary.
Additional thanks to Wal-Mart for donating funds to provide bottled water for our walkers as well as our trusted Northern Regional Police force. Thanks to all!
