PR Students Earn Accolades in the Arts

From the National High School Honors Orchestra to participating in the PMEA District 1 Chorus, students are busy participating in programs with prestige.

  • Pine-Richland High School senior Adam Janssen has been selected to participate in the National High School Honors Orchestra February 16-19 in Santa Clara, CA.
  • Pine-Richland eighth grade violinist Abby Newell, eighth grade viola player Adam Kim and ninth grade violinist Camille Boufford have been selected to play in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Jr. High Orchestra Festival at Hampton Middle School on Feb. 5 and 6.
  • In addition, the Pine-Richland Middle School Orchestra will be traveling to Harrisburg March 22 to perform in the Capital Building for “Music in Our Schools” month.
    PRHS students Jordan Banyas, Jared Berry, Matt Ceurvorst, Jake Chavara, Amanda Ferguson, Megan Hawbaker, PJ McMahon, Taylor Perz and Jacob Wolfgong participated in the PMEA District 1 Chorus hosted at Gateway High School Jan. 22. In addition, Banyas, Berry, Ceurvorst, Ferguson, Hawbaker, McMahon, Perz and Wolfgong will participate in the PMEA Regional Chorus in at Butler High School March 10-12.
  • The Pittsburgh Concert Society held its 2010 Young Artists Auditions and named Pine-Richland High School senior Geoffrey King as a young artist winner.
  • Violinist Alena Smigla, Cellist Zachary Flaus and Trombonist Adam Janssen were selected to participate in the PMEA Sr. High District Orchestra at North Hills School District Jan. 14-16.
  • PRHS students were chosen to participate in the PMEA Honors Orchestra November 15th at Fox Chapel High School. They included: Stephanie Becker, Adam Janssen and Alena Smigla on the violin; Abby Williams on the viola, and on the cello Katherine Boufford and Zachary Flaus.
  • The Pine-Richland High School Chamber Singers and an Eden Hall Upper Elementary student will make their debut on PBS March 7 at 6:30 p.m. They’ve been selected to be a part of a televised event called "Celebrate America" being broadcast on PBS stations and subsequently sold as a DVD. Upcoming Programs

  • The PRMS Drama Club will present the "Wizard of Oz" Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. New Friday & Saturday dates have been scheduled. The program will now be presented Friday, Feb. 12 & Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. (Originally scheduled Feb. 5 & 6). Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. PRMS is located at 100 Logan Road in Gibsonia. Some of the proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish and fundraising for Haiti.
  • Mr. Pine-Richland program takes place at 7 p.m. on Feb. 5 at PRHS. The fundraiser for the Highmark Caring Place is being hosted by NHS.
  • PRSD is hosting the Allegheny Valley Senior Jazz Festival in the PRHS auditorium at 7 p.m. on Feb. 5, 2010.  This free event will feature excellent jazz bands from PR, North Allegheny, Shaler, Hampton, Fox Chapel and Riverview.
  • PRHS Band Concert will take place 7 p.m. on Feb 9 at PRHS, 700 Warrendale Rd. in Gibsonia. Admission is free.
  • Students will host PR Jazz Night in the PRHS atrium on Feb. 23* at 700 Warrendale Rd. in Gibsonia. The program is free and open to the public.  This event will feature the jazz bands and jazz ensemble from PRMS and PRHS to an evening of big band music and dancing. *Please note this program was originally scheduled for Feb. 24.
  • PRMS is hosting its Talent Show at 7 p.m. on Feb. 23. PRMS is located at 100 Logan Rd. in Gibsonia.
  • PR's finest will come together for a special concert at Eden Hall Upper Elementary School at 7 p.m. on March 10. The program will take place in Eden Hall's exploratorium, 3900 Bakerstown Rd. in Gibsonia. The program is free and open to the public.
  • PRHS will perform the musical "Children of Eden" on March 19, 20, 26 & 27 at 7:30 p.m. A 2 p.m. performance also will take place on March 27. A performance for senior citizens will be held at 4 p.m. on March 18. PRHS is located at 700 Warrendale Rd. Check back at www.pinerichland.org for details on ticket sales/prices. The Choral Boosters will host its annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser on March 27 from 4:30-6 p.m. at the high school in conjunction with the musical. Click here for the cast list.
