PR Students Earn Accolades in the Arts

From the National High School Honors Orchestra to participating in the PMEA District 1 Chorus, students are busy participating in programs with prestige.

Pine-Richland High School senior Adam Janssen has been selected to participate in the National High School Honors Orchestra February 16-19 in Santa Clara, CA.
- Pine-Richland eighth grade violinist Abby Newell, eighth grade viola player Adam Kim and ninth grade violinist Camille Boufford have been selected to play in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Jr. High Orchestra Festival at Hampton Middle School on Feb. 5 and 6.
- In addition, the Pine-Richland Middle School Orchestra will be traveling to Harrisburg March 22 to perform in the Capital Building for “Music in Our Schools” month.
PRHS students Jordan Banyas, Jared Berry, Matt Ceurvorst, Jake Chavara, Amanda Ferguson, Megan Hawbaker, PJ McMahon, Taylor Perz and Jacob Wolfgong participated in the PMEA District 1 Chorus hosted at Gateway High School Jan. 22. In addition, Banyas, Berry, Ceurvorst, Ferguson, Hawbaker, McMahon, Perz and Wolfgong will participate in the PMEA Regional Chorus in at Butler High School March 10-12.
- The Pittsburgh Concert Society held its 2010 Young Artists Auditions and named Pine-Richland High School senior Geoffrey King as a young artist winner.
- Violinist Alena Smigla, Cellist Zachary Flaus and Trombonist Adam Janssen were selected to participate in the PMEA Sr. High District Orchestra at North Hills School District Jan. 14-16.
- PRHS students were chosen to participate in the PMEA Honors Orchestra November 15th at Fox Chapel High School. They included: Stephanie Becker, Adam Janssen and Alena Smigla on the violin; Abby Williams on the viola, and on the cello Katherine Boufford and Zachary Flaus.
- The Pine-Richland High School Chamber Singers and an Eden Hall Upper Elementary student will make their debut on PBS March 7 at 6:30 p.m. They’ve been selected to be a part of a televised event called "Celebrate America" being broadcast on PBS stations and subsequently sold as a DVD. Read More...
