This important program is being presented at Eden Hall in partnership with The Northern Area Alliance Against Highly Addictive Drugs. The District Administration including Superintendent Dr. Mary Bucci, EH Principal Mr. Robert Cooper, and EH Assistant Principal Mrs. Michelle Welter encourage every parent/guardian and his/her fifth grader to attend this presentation. Richland Township Volunteer Fire Department Hosting Breakfast: The annual "All You Can Eat Pancake and Sausage Breakfast" is being held on Sunday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is being hosted at its social hall located at 5857 Meridian Road in Gibsonia. There is no admission cost, but they are asking for a free-will donation. The breakfast is held regardless of the weather.

The 2nd Annual Pittsburgh Superhero Foundation 5K Run/Walk is taking registrations for its family event to raise funds and awareness to help prevent child abuse and add abuse victims. The 5K Run/Walk is being held on April 17 at 9 a.m. at the North Park Lodge. Check in is at 8 a.m. The registration deadline is April 15. PRMS Drama Club to Perform Feb. 4, 12 & 13: See Updated Schedule
The PRMS Drama Club will present the "Wizard of Oz" Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. New Friday & Saturday dates have been scheduled. The program will now be presented Friday, Feb. 12 & Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. (Originally scheduled Feb. 5 & 6). Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. PRMS is located at 100 Logan Road in Gibsonia. Some of the proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish and fundraising for Haiti.

PRSD is hosting the Allegheny Valley Senior Jazz Festival in the PRHS auditorium at 7 p.m. on Feb. 5. This free event will feature excellent jazz bands from PR, North Allegheny, Shaler, Hampton, Fox Chapel and Riverview. PRHS is located at 700 Warrendale Rd. in Gibsonia.

To keep you informed, Dr. Mary Bucci will provide regular updates on the Pine-Richland High School expansion project. She reminds the community the district is mapping out this plan with a strategic vision to craft a well-thought out blueprint to ensure expansion goes hand-in-hand with the curriculum. 2nd Annual P-R Varsity Ice Hockey Team Outdoor Game! The Varsity Hockey team will play North Allegheny in its second annual outdoor hockey game on Monday, January 25, at 7 p.m. at North Park Ice Skating Rink. Proceeds will benefit Breast Cancer Research. Last year, we had a terrific crowd, a very exciting game, and raised several thousand dollars. We hope to surpass that this season.

School Board Unanimously Approves Pine-Richland High School Principal
The Pine-Richland School Board unanimously approved John Pietrusinski as principal of Pine-Richland High School. Pietrusinski had been serving as interim co-principal long with John Mayberry since September. Prior Pietrusinski served as an assistant principal at the high school since July 2007 and assistant principal of Pine-Richland Middle School since 2004. We Are Music Makers Scheduled for April 15
"We Are the Music Makers" is being performed on April 15 at 7 p.m. Music Teacher Lee Rickard says the program will feature all of the choirs in Pine-Richland for a combined concert and culminates in the performance of 600+ kids. The program is free and open to the public. The concert will be performed at Pine-Richland High School.

Three PRHS Students Chosen for PMEA All-State Choir: A First for PRSD
For the first time in Pine-Richland School District’s history, three students have been selected to Pennsylvania Music Educator’s All-State Choir in Philadelphia to be held April 22 -25, 2009. Choral Director Lee Rickard says that seniors Sarah Ceurvorst, Samantha Bergman and Michael Weakland auditioned for the choir at Regional Choir the weekend of February 21, 2009 at Derry Area High School and placed within the top six of their section to qualify for the All-State Event. Student Chosen for PMEA Western Regional Orchestra
Pine-Richland High School eleventh grader Adam Janssen, who plays the violin, was chosen to participate in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association’s Western Regional Orchestra on Friday, March 20 at MacDowell Senior High School, 2580 W. 38 th St. in Erie.
Students Win Concerto Competition
Pine-Richland High School sophomores Zachary Flaus and Katherine Boufford won the concerto competition with Pittsburgh Youth Pops Orchestra and will be performing a piece on March 28, 2009 at 7:30p.m. at the Carnegie Music Hall, which is annexed to the Carnegie Library of Homestead, 510 East 10th Avenue in Munhall. They will perform the Double Cello Concerto in G minor by Antonio Vivaldi.
Students to Participate in Strings North Festival
A dozen Pine-Richland High School students will participate in the Strings North Festival hosted by Sewickley Academy March 10 at 7 p.m. The concert will be held in the Rea Auditorium on Sewickley campus, 315 Academy Ave in Sewickley. The Pine-Richland High School Girls Basketball Team qualified for the WPIAL playoffs by finishing fourth in Section 3 with a 6-6 section record. The PR Lady Rams, coached by PR teacher Joe Frank, will play the McKeesport Lady Tigers in the preliminary round on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. at Fox Chapel High School. Come cheer on the North Star Special Olympic Team and the Pine-Richland Hockey Team, as they play Floor Hockey at Pine-Richland High School in the main gymnasiums Saturday, Feb. 14 at 3:30 p.m. This is the 11 th season for the program. Junior Named PIHL/Pittsburgh Penguins December Player of Month
Pine-Richland High School junior Bryan Watt was named the PIHL and Pittsburgh Penguins December Ice Hockey Player of the Month. Watt earned this award for his tremendous efforts during the month of December. Bryan averaged three points per game, including a six-point game against Seneca Valley. He is the leading scorer for the varsity ice hockey team. While only one player can earn this award every month, coaches agree that the whole team deserves to be congratulated for a well-played season.

The Pine-Richland School District is working with 19 other regional school districts and six non-public schools to encourage parents to access Internet based drug prevention education resources. Model UN Takes First Place Honors
Pine-Richland High School Model UN students Nigel Halliday and Cameron Barnes earned first place in the Delegate Category at Duquesne University’s Tournament. PR Crew Members Earn Second Place & Individual Medals
The Pine-Richland High School Crew placed second in team points in a field of 16 high school teams at the 2009 Pittsburgh Indoor Sprints Rowing Championship. PRSD Seeks Applicants for Position of Superintendent
Pine-Richland School District (Allegheny County), with an enrollment of about 4,520 students in grades K-12 and growing, is seeking applicants for the position of Superintendent of Schools. 2008-09 budget is $62 million. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2009 with an application deadline of February 28, 2009. PRHS Teacher Earns National Certification
The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards will announce the 2008 National Board Certified Teachers on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008. Among this year’s class will be Pine-Richland High School Teacher Lauren Martin. She will be among nearly 73,000 teachers across the country, who has achieved National Board Certification. PASA Names Manley as Superintendent of Year

PR Cheerleading Competition Team Takes First Place in State Competition
The Pine-Richland Cheerleading Competition Team earned first place at the Pennsylvania State Championships at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, PA on Nov. 15, 2008. Coach Danielle DeRenzo says the team was named PA State Champs in the small varsity division and Best Overall Team topping other Quad A teams such as Shaler and North Allegheny. Several PRHS Senior Girls Receive Soccer Recognition
Congratulations to several senior Pine-Richland Girls Soccer Players. Tori Pikur was named to All-Section. Christie Kimball was named to All-Section and All-WPIAL, and Katie Wise was named to All-Section, All-WPIAL and All-State. Coach Jodi Chmielewski says Wise is one of only 12 players in the WPIAL to be named all-state. This is the second year in the row for Wise to receive this honor and the second Pine-Richland player to ever be honored for all-state twice.
PR Crew Ready for Winter Competitions
The Pine-Richland Crew is preparing for the Pittsburgh Indoor Sprints to be held January 31, 2009. The rowing team has concluded its fall season with success. Most recently, the Men's Novice 4+ Boat and the Women's Novice Four + Boat each captured the gold at the "Pull-the-Plug" Regatta held November 2, 2008 on the Erie Canal in Pittsford NY. State Auditor to Visit PRSD
The PA State Auditor General Jack Wagner is coming to visit Pine-Richland School District Thursday, June 5, 2008 to highlight the district's safety program. The auditor launched an initiative aimed at checking security at schools across Pennsylvania. Representatives liked what they saw at Pine-Richland. The district has been revamping security by adding a swipe entry system, more security cameras and even a rapid phone dialing system for emergencies. The auditor will tour the high school and the new Eden Hall Upper Elementary School.
Graduation Ceremonies Scheduled for June 6
Nearly 340 Pine-Richland High School seniors will become graduates on Friday, June 6 at 7 p.m. at Pine-Richland High School rain or shine. If weather permits, graduation ceremonies will be held in the Pine-Richland Stadium, which is located at 704 Warrendale Rd. in Gibsonia. More Details…
Musical Earns Four Gene Kelly Awards
The cast, crew and orchestra of Pine-Richland High School’s (PRHS) production of “Seussical the Musical” earned four Gene Kelly Awards. Presenters announced the awards during the annual CLO Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Programs on May 24, 2008 at the Benedum in Downtown Pittsburgh. PRHS earned Best Musical/Budget III, Best Ensemble and Best Costume Design awards. In addition, Cody Hoellerman earned a Best Actor award for his portrayal of the “Cat in the Hat”. Students Compete in Competition Sponsored by Bayer
A team of four Pine-Richland High School World Language students competed in an international marketing competition sponsored by Bayer Corporation. Students Taylor Doaty, Wilm Kranz, Patrick Nowak and Melissa Sirera delivered a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation to Bayer executives, in which they shared a market plan to sell Bayer products in a foreign country. The Teacher Excellence Center honored more than a 100 teachers in its annual awards program held at the Carnegie Music Hall this year. Congratulations to Hance Elementary teachers Anne Haught and Shelley Byers for being named to the 2008 Hall of Fame and PRHS teacher Tom Joyce and Hance Elementary teacher Donna Faux for being named honorees in this year’s program. Senior Citizens Could Earn Tax Help
Pine-Richland School District is hoping to partner with senior citizens in the community. The district is in the planning stages of creating a volunteer program entitled SMILES, which stands for Senior Motivators in Learning and Exchange Services. Principal Earns Library Advocate of the Year Award
The Western Pennsylvania Librarians Association (WPSLA) awarded Pine-Richland Middle School (PRMS) Principal Dr. Kathleen Harrington with the WPSLA Advocate of the Year Award. WPSLA President Gabriella Miller, a librarian at Quaker Valley School District (QVSD), along with past presidents Kathy Batykefer, PRMS librarian, and Rich Hollein, QVSD librarian, presented Dr. Harrington with the prestigious award at the Pine-Richland School Board meeting on May 20, 2008. Eighth Grader to Participate in National Speaking Competition
Pine-Richland Middle School student Branden Glass will participate in the National DeMolay Public Speaking Competition at an international session in Anaheim, CA on June 17, 2008. Glass earned the spot, after being named the Junior Division Champion in the first Annual DeMolay Region II Public Speaking Competition on April 26, 2008 at the Kena Shrine Center in Fairfax, VA. Student Places First in PA Poetry Society Pegasus Contest
A Pine-Richland Middle School student places first in the Pennsylvania Poetry Society 2008 Pegasus Contest. Eighth grader Kaitlin Hudok placed first in the state of Pennsylvania for her poem "Darkened Halls". See who else earned accolades.
Crew Places Nationally
The Pine-Richland High School Women’s Junior 4+ Rowing Team placed 10th overall and the women’s junior 2x team placed 12th overall in the Scholastic Rowing Association of America’s National Championship Regatta in Oakridge, TN May 23 and May 24, 2008. Crew Head Coach Florin Curuea says this event is the highest accomplishment attainable by a high school rowing team. Hockey Team Names New Head Coach
The Pine-Richland Hockey Team has a new head coach today. On May 20, 2008, the team approved Matthew Richert to lead the Pine-Richland Hockey Rams. This will be Matthew Richert’s third year with the team. Richert has coached more than 20 teams ranging from amateur to NCAA Division I over his nine-year coaching career. Click here for details.
Seniors Newest Members of PSU Lionettes
Two Pine-Richland High School seniors are the newest members of the Penn State Dance Team. Both Ashley Hinson and Natalie Sarver tried out for the Division I Penn State Lionettes and earned a spot. Nearly 73 students from all around tried out for a spot, but only 26 made the team. More details…
Junior Takes Eleventh in State in Triple Jump Setting School Record
Pine-Richland High School eleventh grader Katie Wise took eleventh in the women’s triple jump at the PA State Track & Field Championship Meet at Shippensburg University on May 24, 2008. She recorded a jump of 36’11 1/2”. Coach Brian Devinney says this is a personal best for Wise and a new school record.
