Three PRMS Students Compete at
Pittsburgh Regional Science & Engineer Fair
Three Pine-Richland Middle School (PRMS) GATE students competed in the 68 th Annual Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair at the Carnegie Science Center & Heinz Field March 30 and 31.
Teacher Kathy Deal says the students worked on these projects over a span of five to six months. They developed their hypothesis and conducted experiments over that time.
Sixth grader Maggie Burris earned third place in the junior division for her project “Radio Frequency and the effect on Materials” in the consumer science category.
Sixth Grader Tyler Baratka also participated in the junior division. His project was entered in the life science category and was entitled “Family Fingerprints: Similarities”.
Seventh grader Alyssa Lazar participated in the Intermediate Division-Medicine/Health category. Her project was entitled "Which Swimming Event has the Highest Heart Rate?"
Burris placed third in her category (consumer science) and was nominated to participate in the Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge 2007. Margaret (Maggie) also received a Sponsor Award from the Office of Naval Research - Arlington, VA.
