PRMS Eighth Grader to Compete in Natoinal Public Speaking Contest

Pine-Richland Middle School student Branden Glass will participate in the National DeMolay Public Speaking Competition at an international session in Anaheim, CA on June 17, 2008.  Glass earned the spot, after being named the Junior Division Champion in the first Annual DeMolay Region II Public Speaking Competition on April 26, 2008 at the Kena Shrine Center in Fairfax, VA. Glass spoke extemporaneously and impressed the judges with his presentation on "What is Right with America!"

Judges say at age 14, he showed amazing command of historical details, and developed his theme with logic and ease. In September 2007, Glass won the Open Level Ceremony of Light Competition at the Mid- Atlantic Tournament of Champions (MATOC) in Delaware, and he hopes to compete in the Championship Level Competition September 2008 when MATOC comes to Harrisburg, PA.

Glass earned a $500 prize for winning at the Regional level, and will now be eligible to compete for an additional $1,250 first prize or $750 second prize at the national level.  DeMolay is an organization dedicated to preparing young men to lead successful, happy, and productive lives.
