PRHS Senior Earns Semi-Finalist Status in Siemens
Competition in Math, Science & Technology in State

A Pine-Richland High School 12 th grader was named a semifinalist in Pennsylvania in the Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology.

Senior Rebecca Stabile competed with more than 2,000 registered students nationwide by submitting a physics project. More than 1,300 projects were submitted.

She was only one of seven statewide to earn semifinalist status and the only semifinalist in Southwestern PA.

Four students were named regional finalists. Those finalists advanced to the nationals. Today (Dec. 7), two from Pennsylvania were named national winners. Six students and six teams from across the US earned national awards. From PA, only one team earned national status. That team was made up of high school students B enjamin Song and Quan (Jack) Chen, both from Eagleville, PA.

The Siemens Competition is administered annually by the College Board, awarding college scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $100,000 in individual and team categories. The Siemens Competition is a signature program of the Siemens Foundation, the national leader in supporting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education with contributions surpassing $7 million each year.

This year, 318 students were named semifinalists along with 96 students being honored as regional finalists. The combined 414 semifinalists and regional finalists hail from 34 states and the District of Columbia.

Stabile earned several awards at the Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair, including a $20,000 scholarship from Point Park University and a full summer program scholarship from Carnegie Mellon University for a six-week to earn college credits.
