Pine-Richland Middle School Students Named Among Top 10 Poets in State

Creative Communications is naming two Pine-Richland Middle School students among the top 10 poets in the state.  Eighth graders Erich Barth and Nigel Halliday submitted poems to a contest for young poets. Their poems were selected from thousands of entries as one of the top 10 in their grade division.

Barth's winning poem is entitled "Heroes" and Halliday’s poem is entitled "Magic Carpet."  English Teacher Dr. Susan Frantz says that Barth and Halliday will receive special recognition in the poetry anthology "A Celebration of Young Poets."  They will receive a complimentary copy of the anthology and a $50 savings bond.

Poems were selected for their literary merit, creativity and social significance. Students in the English classes at Pine Richland Middle School are encouraged to write for audiences beyond the classroom.

Creative Communications provides several opportunities throughout the year for students to express themselves through poetry and essay writing.  Several middle school students in the past and present have been and continue to be rewarded for taking their writing to the final stage of the writing process -  publication.
