PRSD Unveils PRHS Virtual Guidance Web Site

Entering high school can be overwhelming, especially when you factor in all the planning that goes into those four years. Whether you’re looking for more academic enrichment opportunities, worrying about graduation requirements or deciding what career path to take, having help is key.
In an effort to provide parents with more information, the district developed a comprehensive site, which can be accessed at www.pinerichlandguidance.org.
Specifically, the site will give parents and students access to the following resources:
Guidance Counselor Information
Graduation Planning
Academic Enrichment Opportunities
Testing Information
Career Planning & Assessment
College Preparation
Alumni Outreach
Calendar of Events
"When I first arrived in the district, Pine-Richland parents and students indicated the need for high school guidance web accessibility and an SAT/test prep opportunity,” said Dr. Bille Rondinelli, assistant superintendent/secondary. “This guidance site features, not only FAMILY CONNECTIONS/NAVIANCE, which allows families to connect with Pine-Richland through special software, but also provides additional access to forms, transcript request information, college recruiter visitation dates, test registration deadlines and other details.”
Dr. Rondinelli added that the site, custom designed by Kelly McKenzie's Group 2 and the Pine-Richland High School secondary team with special recognition to College Information Coordinator Jean Whalen, Schools & Community Relations Coordinator Rachel Hathhorn and Dr. Albert Willie, coordinator of special programs, has been created with parent and student need in mind.
The site is geared specifically for high school guidance needs, but will eventually encompass guidance services district wide.
“The district’s plan is to expand this site to include PRSD Guidance K-12 information with the possibility of using the visual integrity presented in the new site for providing a potential future district platform,” said Dr. Rondinelli.
Whalen says that the Pine-Richland High School Guidance Department is very excited about unveiling this new communications tool.
“We believe our families need an accurate resource that will provide important information about academic planning, college and career choices, upcoming college and alumni visitations and college admission testing,” said Whalen. “Our new web page will not only provide detailed information, but answer frequently asked questions as well. New families will also find this a valuable resource as they try to become familiar with our district and in particular the high school graduation requirements.”
Dr. Rondinelli agrees that active communications remain an important component to serving our families.
“With the ability to podcast and vodcast information on this site, students and parents who miss a presentation or session may have the opportunity to hear or see the information on our site,” said Dr. Rondinelli.
Vodcast is the online delivery of video on demand video clip content. A podcast is a series of digital media files, which are distributed over the intranet.
The district is hoping that parents and students, who visit the site, will respond to a brief survey and indicate new features they would like to see added to the site. To access this survey, there is a respondent button in the lower corner of the home page of the site at www.pinerichlandguidance.org .
“We consider this web site as a dynamic work in progress and thank Superintendent Dr. James Manley and members of the PR School Board for their support,” said Dr. Rondinelli. “We are grateful for the funding obtained through the Pennsylvania Department of Education Project 720 Grant.”
