PRHS Participates in National Young Leaders Conference

Pine-Richland High School junior Ryan Nelson had the opportunity to participate in the National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC) in Washington, D.C .

During his visit, Nelson met with Rep. Jason Altmire (PA-4) March 2, 2007.

"There's no better place to learn about American government and the history of our democracy than in our nation's capital," said Rep. Altmire.  "I am thrilled that young people like Ryan have an interest in public service and in learning about the inner workings of government first-hand."

The NYLC gives high-achieving high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors the opportunity to discuss current issues with men and women who shape U.S. policies and laws.  During the six-day conference, Nelson joined NYLC scholars in touring the national monuments and historic sites of Washington, D.C., meeting national journalists and lawmakers, taking part in Executive Branch briefings, and participating in simulations of the Congress and the Judiciary.

Nelson is President and Co-Founder of Pine-Richland High School's Model United Nations Club and is also a Co-Creator of the school's Congress simulation.
