Scheduling Process (Grades 8-11)
Dear Students & Families (Grades 8-11):
As our first semester comes to an end, it is time to focus on scheduling for the 2020-2021 school year. Our 2020-2021 PRHS Program of Studies is available for families and students through our website.
Please use this document to assist you in creating or updating your comprehensive educational graduation plan. Within the PRHS Program of Studies, you will find essential information detailing curricular offerings, course selection, and scheduling. We encourage you to use this as a guide throughout the scheduling process. New this year, we have linked the 16 Career Clusters to the graduation plan (see page 8). This is an opportunity for students and parents to think about options for the future as they consider decisions related to academic course levels and electives.
Over the past several years, the district has been refining the process by:
- Creating a student/parent-friendly useful document.
- Refining the scheduling process to ensure all students spend time with their counselors and teachers to discuss course options.
- Revising pathway charts to clarify options for students as they move through various pathways.
- Utilizing the graduation plan document.
- Adding a time management planner to assist with planning a balanced academic schedule to promote personal wellness.
- Providing time in all classrooms for teachers to discuss their department's course pathway options with students.
- Providing all students the opportunity to discuss course selections one-on-one with both their teachers and school counselor
In an effort to improve our scheduling process for families, we invite parents to an evening of interactive learning with our Program of Studies. The document will continue to be interactive through the high school website. We are inviting parents/guardians to join us on Monday, January 27 at 6:30 p.m. for a Program of Studies Tutorial, designed specifically for YOU. Computers will be available and we will be sharing how to access the document and highlight its many resources. In order to be prepared with devices for all participants, we ask attendees to respond here to confirm your attendance. This tutorial is open to all parents/guardians with children in grades 8 through 11. Principals, school counselors, and teachers will be here to assist in your navigation of the Program of Studies and share important information and tips as you work with your student to build his or her high school schedule for 2020-2021. We will be sharing important dates and information regarding the scheduling process as well.
Our high school teachers will be sharing course recommendations for next year with all students through February 7, 2020. After requests are submitted, our school counselors will be meeting with students to review course requests and address questions. A list of significant dates and events are listed below for your information. These events help to support our students through this process and guide their scheduling decisions as well.
January 27- February 7
PRMS teachers share course recommendations with current 8th-grade students. PRHS teachers share course recommendations with individual students at the high school.
January 27 at 6:30 p.m.
Informational meeting for parents with students in grades 8-11 in high school auditorium. The evening will include a Program of Studies tutorial. RSVP here to confirm your attendance.
January 28 at 8:00 a.m.
Class meeting for Grade 8 in high school auditorium.
February 5 at 7:55 a.m.
Class meeting for Grade 11 in high school auditorium
February 6 at 7:55 a.m.
Class meeting for Grades 9 and 10 in high school auditorium
Grades 8 - 11 students will receive core academic course requests and informational letters during homeroom (high school) and social studies classes (middle school) for students to take home and choose electives.
Deadline for all students to return completed and signed academic course requests to homeroom teachers (high school) or social studies classes (middle school).
February 24 - March 13
Counselors will begin meeting students on an individual basis and input electives.
Week of March 18 (UPDATED)
UPDATED! Students receive verification forms via mail to their home.
Forms will not be returned. Students/families will contact their counselor if there are any questions.
