Board Approves 2019-20 Budget
The Pine-Richland School Board approved the final general fund budget for the 2019-2020 school year in accordance with PR School Board Policy #604 Budget Adoption with total expenditures of $91,457,895 and total revenues of $91,457,895 with no utilization of assigned fund balance, no change to any of the current assessment rates, and to establish tax rates in accordance with PR Board Policy #605 Tax Levy for the 2019-2020 fiscal year.

PR Recognizes Retirees
Pine-Richland School District honored six staff members who are retiring at the end of this year. This year’s retiree reception was hosted through Sodexo Food Service in conjunction with 2019 Sodexo Future Chef Challenge winner Tessa Lutz, who shared her Apple Taco Tastic dish.

Teams of teachers and administrators presented on Monday, April 29, 2019, an overview of the in-depth program review process along with the recommendations that were identified from the year-long study of the gifted and/or highly achieving program and the social studies department.

Student Surveys to Be Administered
We believe strongly that all of our stakeholders including our students can provide important feedback about the quality of our educational programs. To capture student input, the district developed an annual student satisfaction survey two years ago to share for students in Grades 3, 6, 8 and 12 the weeks of May 14 and May 20, 2019. We will also be administering the annual technology survey to grades 3-12 during the window of May 6-24, 2019.

Help Review Math, Science & Health Resources
Core and expanded team members from each committee met to conduct a final review of the vendor presentation evaluations, in-depth program review findings, community/student input, & staff feedback.This process guided the committees in final recommendations. The resources, along with feedback forms, will be on display for families, students & community members for review through May 8, 2019.

Join Us for Food Advisory & Wellness Committee
Join us as Pine-Richland School District hosts the fourth Food Service Advisory & Wellness Committee meeting for the 2018-2019 School Year from 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2019. An evening session will be held from 6-7 p.m. for those who cannot attend the morning session.

Be A Resource Reviewer
Parents, students, and community members have the opportunity to review and provide input on identified resources for math, science & health resources starting March 5, 2019. The feedback from the community, students, and departments will be used to support final recommendations. Final recommendations will then be on display this spring for an additional review.

Students Develop Innovative Applications
PRHS students organized and led a successful hackathon called “Hack the Ram.” Seniors Arjan Guglan, Lauren Juncal, and Justin Waltrip, and junior Daniel Krill developed, organized and launched PR’s first-ever hackathon on Feb. 9, 2019.

Last Day for Kindergarten Scheduled for June 5
Due to the cancellation of school on Friday, November 16, 2018, our current kindergarten students will need to attend school on Wednesday, June 5, 2019. Previously, the last day of school was listed as Tuesday, June 4, 2019.

PR Dance Team Receives Highest Honors
The Pine-Richland High School Dance Team competed at the Universal Dance Association (UDA) Home Technique Summer Camp and won many awards.

HS to Open Parking Permit Process
We are preparing to begin the parking permit application process for the 2019-2020 school year. Pine-Richland High School students will receive an email to their Pine-Richland email account containing a link to the application form. All applications must be completed using the online form and can be completed from any device that has internet access. Seniors will be able to access the Parking Permit application beginning 12:00 A.M. on Monday, July 22, 2019. Juniors will be able to access the Parking Permit application beginning 12:00 A.M. on Monday, July 29, 2019.

Students Earn 3rd Place at STEM Competition
Pine-Richland students earned third place at the STEM Design Competition hosted at Duquesne University on March 6, 2019. The sixth-grade team was made up of Eden Hall Upper Elementary students Violet Vigliotti and Elena Morse. The fifth-grade team included Eden Hall Upper Elementary students Zachary Shingledecker, CJ Ray, Alex Kastner, and Martino Jang.

Read to Feed Nets Record Donations
Wexford Elementary students, parents, staff and community members help to raise more than $35,000 in the read-to-feed program. PNC Bank helped to match the funds, which set a school record. In all more than $35,560 was collected.

Students Build Problem-Solving & Teamwork Skills
Students from Hance, Richland and Wexford Elementary schools were challenged to take 100 pieces of uncooked spaghetti and 100 marshmallows and build a 30-centimeter bridge. The bridge project was one of a few activities students participated in during STEAM Day on March 15, 2018, in the PRHS Stadium Spirit Room.

Review Athletic Health & Safety Plan
PRSD values the learning experiences that occur for students both inside and outside of the classroom. Athletics and activities are two examples of the diverse opportunities that our students can explore. In an effort to begin to bring students back on campus, the PR Athletics Department has developed a board approved health & safety plan. This plan will serve as the roadmap for our goal of returning to athletic and extracurricular activities and remaining at school and maintaining these activities in the healthiest manner possible.

Committee Selects 2nd Class of Inductees
The Pine-Richland Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is announcing the second annual Athletic Hall of Fame Class of Inductees. Approved in June of 2020, the Pine-Richland Athletic Hall of Fame honors and recognizes those associated with Pine-Richland athletics who have experienced significant accomplishments in their chosen sport or sports.

Additionally, the district is announcing the hiring of Mark Hunkele as the high school head varsity cross-country coach. Coach Hunkele is no stranger to the Pine-Richland Athletic Department.

Junior Commits to Liberty
Pine-Richland High School junior Harrison Hayes announced he is committing to Liberty University. With lots of offers, the offensive tackle announced his decision on April 14, 2020. The junior helped the team average 37.9 points per game during this past year's season.

Wrestler Places 4th at PIAAs
Pine-Richland High School junior Cole Spencer competed at the Hershey Giant Center March 6-8, 2020, at the state wrestling championships. Cole won four matches against the strongest competitors in the state during the three-day tournament. He came away with a fourth-place medal and a final record of 42-2, a PR season all-time record. Cole will compete in the NHSCA National Championships in Virginia Beach later this month.

JV1 Inline Team Earns Championship Medal
The Pine-Richland High School Inline Hockey Program had four teams that were in the playoffs. The PRHS JV1 Team won the Tier 4 High School championship and gold medal. The varsity team earned the silver medal.

Competition Cheerleaders Place Ninth Nationally
The Pine-Richland High School Varsity Competitive Cheerleading Team traveled to the ESPN Wide World of Sports at Disney World in Orlando, FL, to compete at the National High School Cheerleading Competition on February 7-9, 2020, The team earned a spot in the final round with 14 teams. They hit 3 “Zero deduction” routines which means they executed perfectly and placed ninth.

Hockey Team to Play in PIHL Quarterfinals
The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League Playoffs will get underway the week of March 2, 2020. PRHS earned the Class AA Penguins Cub in 2019. This year, the team moved up to AAA. The team will take on Canon-McMillan on March 3, 2020, at 9 p.m. at the Prinstcape Arena for the PIHL quarterfinals.

Junior Wrestlers Compete at Championships
Pine-Richland Middle School seventh-grader Vaughn Spencer earned first place at the Pennsylvania Junior High Wrestling State Championships this weekend in Johnstown in the 138lb division. In addition, seventh-grader Maclane Miller placed sixth at the championships.
