  • Keystone ExamsApril 26, 2021

    Dear Parents/Guardians:

This communication provides details for a unique schedule for Pine-Richland High School on Monday, May 17th.

Students who are scheduled for the Literature Keystone Exam will report to school as usual and will use the full day to complete both modules of the assessment. This session for the Literature Keystone Exam includes all students enrolled within a ‘trigger course’ that meets the requirements for the Keystone Exam as the end-of-course assessment. For literature, this will be the majority of our 9th and 10th-grade students. Students who are scheduled to test will receive communication through their Pine-Richland email account of their testing date and room assignments, a parent/guardian will also be copied on this communication.

Students who are not testing will remain at home on this day and engage in virtual asynchronous learning activities. Details regarding the learning activities for our students not testing will be shared by teachers in advance of the asynchronous day. All staff will be assisting with proctoring of the Keystone exams. Teachers will share their availability, should students have questions or require guidance for any assignments.

The regular morning bus schedule will still operate on this test date for any student needing transportation. The test schedule begins at 7:45 a.m. and testing sessions will be split through morning and afternoon and will include a half-hour lunch and a half-hour break. Transportation will be provided at the conclusion of the exam with dismissal at 2:36 p.m.

Students who regularly attend Beattie and who are scheduled for the Keystone Exams must report to PRHS for the full day to complete testing requirements. Please catch your bus in the morning and ride the same bus home in the afternoon. Student drivers can continue to drive to campus as usual. If you attend Beattie and are not scheduled to test, please report to Beattie on your normal schedule.  Students with transportation needs will be addressed on an individual basis.

    Keystone Exam Information
Please review the following information for more details on Keystone Exams.
    • Keystone Exams (Grades 8-12) are end-of-course assessments designed to measure students' mastery of the standards associated with Algebra 1, Biology, and Literature. Keystone Exams are a requirement for graduation at Pine-Richland School District.

    • At this time, the United States Department of Education and the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) require state standardized testing. PDE has permitted increased flexibility in the assessment, acknowledging that schools will face additional logistical challenges for testing large groups of students within health and safety protocols.

    • Regardless of whether students are taking the paper-based or online assessment, PDE requires all in-person and virtual students to be on campus at the time of testing. For online test takers, PDE utilizes assessment software that requires the use of a school-issued device directly connected to the school network to function.

    • Please note that the Keystones will be administered on the following dates:
    Literature - May 17, 2021
    Biology - May 19 & 20, 2021
    Algebra - May 24 & 25, 2021
    •  Student scores can be used to assist teachers in identifying students who may be in need of additional educational opportunities; school scores provide information to schools and districts for curricular and instructional improvement.
    Important Exam Information & Resources
Please remember students should not bring any electronic devices (e.g., cell phones, smartphones, smartwatches, etc.) other than an approved calculator, if applicable. We encourage parents and students to review the exam code of conduct and calculator policy. Students taking the paper-based testing may bring their Chromebook to school throughout the testing window for regular learning activities, yet will not be used or powered on until PSSA or Keystone testing is complete per teacher directions. Please view Keystone & PSSA frequently asked questions and other resources.
