The PR School Board approved Dr. Hernandez as principal of Pine-Richland High School at the board planning meeting on June 6, 2022.Dr. Hernandez has served as an assistant principal at the high school since he was hired in August of 2021. Since coming to PR, Dr. Hernandez has demonstrated a genuine passion for education and focus on students, which mirrors the district’s mission of being Focused on Learning for Every Student Every Day."We are thankful for the leadership and sacrifice Dr. Bowman has provided to Pine-Richland High School over the past eight years, said Dr. Brian Miller. "In this critical position, we are pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Frank Hernandez to the role of principal. Dr. Hernandez is a strong supporter of the PRSD mission, vision and values. He brings a wide range of leadership experiences to the position. In the year that he has worked in the district, he has already begun forming strong relationships with students, staff and parents."Most recently, Dr. Hernandez served as an assistant principal at Baden Academy Charter School. Prior, he served as a principal at West Allegheny High School, West Allegheny Middle School, and Freedom Area Middle School. He also served as an assistant principal at Freedom Area High School. While serving as the middle school principal at West Allegheny, his team earned the prestigious Don Eichhorn National Schools to Watch designation in 2018.In addition, Dr. Hernandez has extensive experience leading schools and educational programs in the areas of special education, positive behavior and intervention support, and curriculum, instruction, and assessment. While serving as a principal at West Allegheny, his teams were recognized at the state level for excellence in academic achievement and growth, as well as developing model programs to support student attendance, college and career readiness, and multi-tiered systems of support.Dr. Hernandez shared that he is “very excited to follow Dr. Bowman as the next principal at Pine-Richland High School. Over the last year, I have been able to experience firsthand what makes PR special, and I am looking forward to our next steps to continue to enhance the educational experience at PRHS for all students and staff. Our focus on learning for every student and the deep connection and commitment that we have to partner with our parents and community are values that hold the utmost importance. I look forward to continuing Pine-Richland’s commitment to excellence with all students, staff, and community.”Dr. Hernandez earned a Doctorate in Educational Administration with a Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility, as well as a Master of Education in School Leadership from the University of Pittsburgh. He was named a Distinguished Principal’s Award recipient while participating in the Principal’s Academy of Western Pennsylvania.Dr. Hernandez and his wife Marigrace have three children and reside close by in the Wexford area.
