    Dr. Matthew Mehalik

    Dr. Matthew Mehalik was appointed to the Pine-Richland School Board for Region 3 on January 8, 2018 and re-elected in November 2019.  Dr. Mehalik joins the board with a wealth of experience. He currently serves as Executive Director of the Breathe Project/Collaborative, which works to promote clean air and inspire healthy communities across southwestern Pennsylvania. Prior, he worked at Sustainable Pittsburgh as a program director.

    Dr. Mehalik also serves as an adjunct assistant professor at Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College, where he teaches Environmental Policy & Planning and Resilient and Sustainable Communities. In addition, he completed postdoctoral work in Learning Science in Education at the University of Pittsburgh.

    He holds several degrees including a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering with concentrations in Business Management, Ethics and Social Studies of Innovation and Technology and a Master of Science in Systems Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Virginia.

    He has co-authored a book entitled Ethical & Environmental Challenges to Engineering and published many journals, case studies, and articles.

    Dr. Mehalik and his wife Deborah have a middle school aged child and live in Richland Township.
