The Board emphasizes that federal law makes it illegal to duplicate copyrighted materials without permission. The Board acknowledges that severe penalties are provided for unauthorized copying of audio, visual, software, online or printed materials unless the copying falls within the bounds of the fair use doctrine. Board Policy 814 Copyright Material generally refers to district materials by the use of staff. However, students can learn and understand the policy and apply it to their work in class.
