Facility Management
Pest Management
PRSD uses an Integrated Pest Management approach for managing insects, rodents and weeds. Our goal is to protect staff and students from pesticide exposure by using an IPM approach to pest management. Our approach focuses on making the school building and grounds an unfavorable habitat for these pests by removing food and water sources and eliminating their hiding and breeding places.
We accomplish this through standard cleaning and maintenance practices. Pest sightings should be reported to the building custodian who evaluates the situation and determines the appropriate pest management techniques to address the problem. These techniques include increased sanitation, modified storage practices, sealed entry points or physically removing the pest.
If it is necessary to use pesticides registered by the Environmental Protection Agency to manage a pest problem, the pesticide will only be used as needed and will not be routinely applied. When a pesticide is necessary, the least toxic, most effective product will be used. Applications will be made only when unauthorized persons do not have access to the area being treated.
Notices will be posted in these areas 72 hours prior to application and for two days following the application.

Preventative Testing
Pine-Richland School District is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and staff members. As one component of this focus, the district has historically conducted a preventative program in which periodic testing is conducted in our buildings. For example, past tests include lead in water, indoor air quality, and radon.
- The district has taken a proactive and systematic approach to expanding preventative testing that exceeds regulatory requirements. By establishing a comprehensive baseline, the district can mitigate any areas of concern as an important effort to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff members.
- The district earned a $26,000 grant through the Women for a Healthy Environment initiative “Lead in Water, Lead in Paint, and Radon Testing & Remediation” in October 2018 to help offset the cost of testing.
- In addition to the areas mentioned in the grant title, the district also conducted indoor air quality sample tests at all six buildings. Through the course of this testing program, the district has sent communications to the entire PRSD community related to lead in water results and radon results. Follow-up communication has been sent to specific schools and/or stakeholders to report the progress of mitigation efforts
