• Star 360 & CogAT 7

Pine-Richland School District implemented in 2017-2018 new universal screeners: STAR 360 and CogAT 7 (Cognitive Abilities Test).
    • STAR 360, which is considered a leading interim and formative assessment for grade-level domain mastery down to the sub-skill level, is being administered four times a year (September, November, February, and May) to all students in kindergarten through sixth grade.
    • STAR 360 will be  administered initially to grade seven for one year to study the benefits.  Additionally, students receiving interventions in grades 7-12 will be assessed to assist with progress monitoring efforts.
    • CogAT7  reflects the most current industry research in the measurement of cognitive abilities and learning styles. The CogAT 7 will be administered in the fall to students in second and fifth grades. These tools will provide data to teachers to help shape instructional decisions to meet individual needs.
These universal screeners replace several existing tests (e.g.,  AIMSweb and Fountas & Pinnell, and CDT).

The three primary factors considered in the recommendation were time, stretch, and utility. Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education & Curriculum Dr. Kristen Justus is creating the transition plan for these assessments.
