Guardians & Staff:
We are fortunate to live in a dynamic community that continues to experience residential and commercial growth. Long-range planning - in all areas of programming and operations - is critical for organizational performance and success. In addition to the areas of new construction, we know that Pine and Richland Townships provide an attractive place for families with school-age children or parents planning to start a family. The quality of our school district and a wide range of opportunities is an important consideration for those families. The municipal government, location relative to the greater Pittsburgh region, and other amenities contribute to this growth.
The specific topic of demographics, enrollment, and building capacity are contained in the PRSD Strategic Plan for 2019 - 2023. Under the Finance and Operations category for 2019 - 2020, there is a specific short-term action "to evaluate the 2016 demographic study versus the actual enrollment data." Additionally, conducting an update of this study will provide a better understanding of the enrollment trends at the overall district level and across our primary K-3 buildings (i.e., Hance, Richland, and Wexford).
A Joint Student Services and Operational Services Committee meeting was held on October 7, 2019, prior to the PR School Board Planning Meeting. At the planning meeting, the board and administration agreed to update a demographic study and recommended a timeline of:
- 2019-2020: Update Demographic Study; Finalize Redistricting Recommendation by summer or early fall of 2020.
- 2020-2021: Planning for Logistics: No Redistricting (i.e., current boundaries continue)
- 2021-2022: Implementation: First Year of Redistricting (i.e., new boundaries begin)
For community awareness, Pine-Richland School District has finalized a narrated, voice-over podcast which is about 20 minutes in length and can be viewed above or via this link along with additional resources. The podcast provides a thorough and comprehensive outline of the topic. The district has utilized this communication strategy in the past to ensure that consistent, accurate information is made available to each person. In addition, the district will provide future opportunities for community awareness and feedback through board meetings, key communicators, PTO meetings, and eBlasts as well as provide opportunities for the community.
