Review Tech Reminders

Over the last year, we are proud of the significant growth our students, staff, and families have experienced in the use of technology to enhance learning. The results of our Bright Bytes survey demonstrate the growth rates across the CASE Framework dimensions (Classroom, Access, Skills, Environment), as assessed annually as a part of our benchmarking process. 
 
Since almost all students will be in-person for learning, we anticipate that the role of technology will shift slightly this year. For the families whose children retained their devices over the summer months (e.g. students entering grades 2 through 6), please ensure that you have located and charged your devices to have them ready for the first day of school. 
 
Grade K-3
All students entering Kindergarten were provided with an iPad as their student device during Find Your Classroom day. Students entering 1st grade were provided with a new Chromebook, while children in grades 2 and 3 were able to retain their same student device from last year. 
 
Grades 4-6
Students in grades 4 through 6 have retained their original Chromebooks issued to them last year. 
 
Grades 7-8
All students in grades 7-8 will receive new Chromebooks, as a part of our 1:1 expansion roll-out.  These laptops have been inventoried and are ready for distribution.  Students will receive their laptops on the first day of school, Tuesday, August 31, 2021.
 
Grades 9-12
We encourage students to bring their own devices. All educational spaces are equipped with (content filtered) Wi-Fi.  However, for those students who need a district device (Chromebook), a request form will be going out to Parents and Guardians on September 1st. Devices will be delivered to students shortly after the request is submitted.
 
Optional Insurance
A separate email will also go out to all parents and guardians with district-issued devices including details on optional insurance plans to protect the distinct loaned devices.
 
Annual Acknowledgement Form
Please remember to review the district’s acceptable use policy.  It is embedded into the annual Acknowledgement Form for the Discipline Code--Student Handbook--Video/Audio Recordings--Searches-- Acceptable Use of Internet, Computers, and Network Resources.  You can find this form on the Sapphire Community Portal for parents (My BackPack-Student Data Forms).  This form must be signed by parents/guardians by Friday, September 10, 2021.
