Students Compete in Annual Shakespeare Monologue and Scene Contest

Seven Pine-Richland students earned five honorable mentions this month in the Pittsburgh Public Theater’s Shakespeare Monologue and Scene Contest. More than 750 students from 80 schools in the region participated in the annual acting competition.

Students in two divisions of grades 4-7 and 8-12 were awarded finalist and honorable mention status following the preliminary competition held at the O’Reilly Theater. Honorable mentions for Pine-Richland went to: 

  • John-Paulo Folino, 11, Romeo and Juliet (Mercutio)
  • Grace Lennie, 10, As You Like It (Phoebe)
  • Aubrey Crist, 9, Julius Caesar (Brutus)
  • Bailey Crist, 9, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Hermia)
  • Jocelyn Rich, 12, Grace Kay, 11, and Jarah Casciani, 10, Love's Labor Lost (Katherine, Rosaline, Princess)

“I am so incredibly proud,” said teacher Mrs. Michelle Bruno. “This is surely a testament to the dedication and hard work of my theater students.”

Students have been working with Mrs. Bruno for months in preparation, including participating in an acting workshop with actors and instructors Aaron Crutchfield and Callie Miles on January 30 at Pine-Richland High School.
