The American Legion Post 548 hosted the annual Memorial Day Service at Richland Park in Bakerstown on May 28, 2018
Post Commander Bob Schleiden (Air Force) made the welcome address and reminded all of the great gratitude we should have for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
“We owe so much to the fallen, a debt that is so great that it cannot be repaid,” said Post Commander Bob Schleiden.
Local cub scouts and girl scouts participated in the ceremonies along with the Pine-Richland High School Band Ensemble led by Director Brian Scott.
The American Legion presented PRHS Major Mike Morrison and Chief Michael Gasparetto with the American Legion Meritorious Service Medal. In addition, Mr. Scott was presented with the American Legion Music Award. State Representative Mike Turzai helped present the awards.
The program included a traditional flag ceremony as well as songs “America the Beautiful,” and “Amazing Grace.” In addition, the PRHS Trumpeters played Taps and the Post 548 Honor Guard and the AFJROTC Cadets provided a rifle team salute. The Mars Rovers sang an Armed Forces Medley.
The American Legion also recognized those who have given 50 plus years of service to the American Legion and conducted a first responder and Post 548 memorial presentation.
