PRMS Second Quarter Emails for Families

PRMS Second Quarter Email for Families
January 15, 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians:
As the end of the first semester is winding down, Mr. Minsinger and I wanted to provide you with an update regarding one of our School’s to Watch goals, implementing a multi-tiered system of supports for all students. This includes a system that addresses the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students. Within the classroom, teachers are addressing students’ academic needs through a number of subject-specific interventions. Additionally, team teachers began writing student referrals in December for an executive functioning program aimed at helping students with their organizational skills. Also, we are in the process of piloting a reading comprehension intervention program. Our RAMS Way behavioral program has highlighted thousands of positive behaviors and the second semester will end with an assembly celebrating many of our students’ positive choices.
As the second nine weeks ends, our students will begin to prepare for our midterm examinations. New for the 2019-20 school year, students will take their midterm assessments during their scheduled class time. Here is a link to our midterm testing schedule. Many of our seventh grade students are taking midterms for the first time. In an effort to reduce anxiety, encourage your child to plan ahead. Take a few minutes to help your child to develop a midterm study schedule. Students who spend small pockets of time reviewing typically have greater success than students who "cram". Here are some additional tips: encourage your child to get plenty of sleep the night before, dress comfortably, slow down when reading directions and use the test-taking strategies learned in class. Remember your child's teachers are excellent resources if your child feels like additional support is needed.
Program of Studies
As we enter the third quarter, we are beginning the scheduling process for the 2020-21 school year. Please click on this link to review the Pine-Richland School District’s Program of Studies. Becoming familiar with this document will help your child as they transition to the next grade level. Our teachers will make recommendations for high school courses and our guidance staff will meet with students to help them make course selections. Please open the links to review important scheduling information for rising 9th-grade students and for rising 8th-grade students
The middle school provides many ways for our students to enhance their learning both inside and outside of the classroom. Two quality examples:
  • Our drama club will present “Seussical” January 30th through February 1st, 2020.
  • Our student writers are publishing many quality articles via the Pine-Richland Post, the student newspaper. Click on the QR code to see the latest edition.
