- Pine-Richland Middle School
November 10 Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we enter the second nine weeks of the 2023-24 school year, Miss Berezo (assistant principal) and I wanted to provide you with an update on recent happenings at Pine-Richland Middle School and to express our gratitude for your continued support.
At Pine-Richland Middle School, we strongly value providing a welcoming and safe environment where every student can thrive socially and academically. To achieve this goal, it is crucial for us to set high expectations and maintain a positive school atmosphere. Over the past couple of weeks, Miss Berezo and I have been actively engaging with our students in small groups, focusing on our positive behavioral support program, the R.A.M.S. Way. We emphasized the power of goal setting in various aspects of our students' lives, academic, athletic or personal. Encouraging our students to further develop their goal-setting skills is an essential step toward their overall growth and success.
Unfortunately, we have experienced a significant number of incidents of inappropriate student comments related to other students’ race, religion and/or gender during our first nine weeks. Such comments have no place in our school community as they hinder the creation of a positive and safe school environment. Miss Berezo and I have spoken with our students about the impact of these comments and have set a collective goal to eliminate such behavior during the second nine weeks of school. We urge you to discuss these issues with your child, emphasizing the importance of respectful communication and empathy towards others. By working together, we are confident that we can end these types of comments in our schools and community.
To support these conversations at home, here are a few potential conversation starters that you may find helpful when speaking with your child or children:
Can you think of a time when someone's words and or actions hurt your feelings? How did it make you feel?
Why is it important to think before you speak or act?
What does respectful mean to you? How do you feel when you are treated with respect and or disrespect?
Discuss the impact of positive words and gestures. How can these small acts of kindness make a big difference?
In addition to our focus on positive behavior, we are collaborating closely with our Parent and Staff Association (PSA) to organize fun after-school activities for our students. We are currently planning a movie night in December and a winter dance in February. Please stay tuned to the Friday Flash for the specific dates of these two upcoming events. These events provide great opportunities for positive social interactions. We urge you to encourage your children to attend these events, as they contribute to a positive school experience.
We also want to express our sincere appreciation for your dedication to fostering strong academic engagement with your children. Your efforts are evident. This month, Pine-Richland School District will release our Academic Achievement and Growth Report. We invite you to take some time to review Pine-Richland Middle School’s student growth data. These results are reflective of the collective achievements of our students, teachers and the entire Pine-Richland community. Your support and involvement are invaluable. We are grateful for your commitment to our school’s success.
As a reminder, Pine Richland Middle School’s building goal is to implement instructional strategies to support all students’ growth and achievement. The images throughout this letter demonstrate a variety of instructional strategies tailored to meet the learning styles of our students.
If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Together, we can continue to create a positive and nurturing environment.
