Students Explore Cultures from Around World

World Culture Day From Albania to Vietnam, Eden Hall Upper Elementary School hosted the Annual World Cultural Day on May 4, 2018. More than 50 different presenters shared their knowledge and experience.

The EHUE school counselors, librarian, and World Language teachers worked together to create the event that was kicked off with music presentations, during breakfast in the cafeteria.

Teachers Mary Anne Sanders and Sarah Burkot say it is a great way to share perspectives on a variety of cultures.

“We’re pleased to offer this cultural experience,” said Teacher Sara Burkot. “This is important for our kids, so they can have meaningful and authentic experiences with different countries and cultures.”

Following the breakfast, students visited dozens of classrooms to listen to various cultural presentations about more than 30 countries. They learned more about the language, food, topography, climate, customs and traditions found in various cultures and countries from around the world.

“The overall purpose of this day is to provide students with the opportunity to explore various aspects of culture such as customs, traditions, language, music, art, food, and dress,” said Mr. Steven Smith, Eden Hall Upper Elementary School principal. “Students will develop an appreciation for our differences and similarities as citizens in a global community. We hope you have an opportunity to join us for part of the day and visit some of the presentations.”

The afternoon consisted of an assembly by storyteller Tim Hartman who presented "Folktrails," a program about folk tales around the world.

Teachers Mary Ann Sanders and Sarah Burkot along with Counselors Brad-Leigh Coker, Lauren Hawrylak, and Jennifer Miller helped organize the day’s events along with the PTO.

On May 10, 2018, 139 students, along with staff, hosted an Eden Hall World Language Fair in the evening. More than 60 countries were represented  Students spent all year researching their countries and putting together posters, brochures, stamps, crafts, activities, and food items for their country, all of which were put on display at the fair.
