Veterans Share Wisdom & Stories

Veterans day Eden Hall Upper Elementary School honored veterans on November 7, 2018. Each year, staff, students, and parents invite veterans to speak about their experiences.

Some of the speakers included Veteran Rob Wilig, who spoke about his service of 21 years in the army. He shared stories about where he was stationed and brought uniforms, so students could see them first hand. He even explained why the flag is turned around on a uniform. He explained that it would appear as if the troops were retreating rather than advancing.

Army Veteran Howard Shute told students the best thing they could do for a veteran is to reach out to him or her.

“Something you can do for a veteran would be to go up to them and shake a veteran’s hand,” Mr. Shute said.

Pine-Richland graduate Jim Slomka, who served as an Army helicopter pilot, talked about some of his duties, which included flying past presidents along with the Secret Service.

The program is coordinated under the direction of Counselor Brad-Leigh Coker and EHUE PTO Representative Yvonne Balouris.
