Dear RES Students and Families,
I have some exciting news for ALL of you! Our building entryway has been transformed! In collaboration with our PTO and Facilities Department, it looks like a whole new building in the hallway between the main doors and the library. The Facilities Department supported a fresh coat of neutral paint in the hallway and in the main office, so now our student work will POP when it is displayed. The PTO supported bringing in a professional artist from Atlanta, Georgia, Michelle Kee to paint a mural on the rounded tile wall where hundreds of our kids enter each day and where every single student and staff member passes each day. Michelle has worked on many projects in her career, from transforming interior and exterior building walls to canvas art, and even designing masks during the pandemic. Michelle collaborated with our art teacher Mrs. Laslavic to develop the design for the mural. The process involved the voices of our staff members and students. The staff were able to submit various quotes in which they felt inspired to be included on the wall. Then, our students voted on those quotes, the design of our mascot, and the various activities they wanted to be represented on the wall so they could see themselves in it somewhere. Out of the process, came the masterpiece seen in the photos -- take a moment to preview! Click here to view the transformation. If you would like to learn more about Michelle and her work, visit her page.
I cannot wait for you all to see the entryway transformation at Open House next week when you enter through the main doors.
Kindergarten and 2nd grade Open House is on March 1 from 6-7 p.m.; 1st and 3rd grade Open House is on March 3 from 6-7 p.m. This is a time to review displayed work of your child’s both in the classroom and in the hallways, not engage in a conference-type meeting with your child’s teacher. Mrs. Laslavic has been working with parent volunteers to get student art proudly hung in the hallways.
We do ask everyone to please be mindful of sanitizing hands and physical distancing while you are in the building. Doors will open promptly at 6 p.m., and all visitors will be asked to exit at 7 p.m.
With PRide,
Ms. Jenna L. Sloan
