Message from the Hance Elementary Principal

April 27,2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I wanted to reach out one final time before May begins with some additional updates. I hope that you and your families are doing well and staying healthy in these challenging times. As a reminder, I have included information about the Virtual RAMS Way tickets below.

Virtual RAMS Way Ticket for HES Families
Have you seen your Hance student go out of his or her way to meet the core values of RAMS (Respectful, Accountable, Motivated and Safe) at home? Just because we’re not physically at school does not mean that positive behavior should go unacknowledged. If you see an instance where your child has displayed our values at home, use the Google Form to issue a “virtual” RAMS Way” ticket. Submitted tickets will be added to our RAMS Way ticket total for the year and all virtual ticket recipients will be added into a raffle at the end of the year. All Hance Elementary staff members will be giving “virtual” tickets as well. Parent notification will also be sent when the teachers acknowledge a child for RAMS Way behavior virtually! Tickets for the week should be entered by Friday at 3:00 p.m. in order to receive an acknowledgment in their parents’ email!

  •  As a reminder, we are continuing to work toward a few common expectations as a school. Those include:
  • Email from your teacher with learning opportunities for the week sometime on Friday.
  • Specials lessons will be posted on the Hance website via this link sometime on Friday to streamline emails. Look at the links under Headlines and Features for the opportunities.
  •  We continue to post our “morning announcements” to the Hance Elementary website daily. This is a great way for you to establish a daily routine with your child, even if you need to view them at a different time during the day due to your work schedule.
  • As a way to further engage students and keep everyone immersed in learning, I have listed two Twitter challenges related to RAM time and RAMS Way. If you wish to take advantage of these additional enrichment opportunities, please post pictures and tag me @Hanceprincipal over the next few days as a way to stay connected and engaged.
Tuesday, April 28, 2020 Twitter Challenge -
RAM Time: Tweet what your favorite subject is related to RAM time. Is it Reading or Math? Take a picture of your child working on their favorite subject area and tag me on Twitter @Hanceprincipal.

Thursday, April 30, 2020 Twitter Challenge -
RAMS Way:
“A” stands for Accountable in our RAMS Way acronym. We know at Pine-Richland that “learning happens inside and outside the classroom.” Students need to apply the skills they have learned through RAMS Way at home due to our current situation. Have your child snap a photo of something they have done during a Google Meet check-in that exemplifies being accountable and tag me in the photo of his or her interpretation on Twitter @Hanceprincipal.

We also have a general list of reminders and useful information:
  • The request for student Chromebooks has been reactivated. Requests for students' devices can be completed using the form at the bottom of the PRrams.org page.
  • Pine-Richland School District has extended the closure of our six schools through the end of the 2019-2020 school year.
  • Please be sure to look for more information late this week about STAR 360 testing beginning on May 1st.
  • Please review the FAQ for any questions that you may have related to the school closure for the remainder of the 19-20 school year. The FAQ is linked here.
  • Additional details regarding retrieval of student belongings, drop off procedures for library books and pick up of yearbooks, utilizing a “Grab and Go” strategy is being developed for when social distancing norms and the “Stay Home Order” from the Governor is lessened. Stay tuned!
  • Please save the date of May 29 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. The staff is planning a parade around the Hance territory as a final check-in and as a way to provide a social distanced summer send-off with a tribute to our transitioning third graders. More details to come mid-May including the parade route with approximate times!
  • Please see the list of Twitter Challenges for May via this link. Thank you for your collaboration and continued engagement!

In collaboration,
Ms. Greta Kuzilla
