Veterans Share Insightful Stories

Veterans Day with speakers and students collage Eden Hall Upper Elementary School honored veterans on November 11, 2019. Staff, students, and parents invited veterans to speak about their experiences under the direction of Counselor Brad-Leigh Coker and EHUE PTO Representative Yvonne Balouris.

Some of the speakers included Veteran Rob Wilig, who spoke about his service of 21 years in the army. He shared stories about where he was stationed and brought uniforms, so students could see them first hand. He even explained why the flag is turned around on a uniform. He explained that it would appear as if the troops were retreating rather than advancing.

Juliet Jaras spoke about her experiences as a television broadcaster for the Air Force, and Richard Yurocko spoke about being in the National Guard.

“I love what I do,” he said. “I can protect and serve all of you. Part of it is a sacrifice. We spend time away from our family and friends.”

These were just some of the speakers to share their stories on Veterans Day.

In addition, Eden Hall hosted a Veterans' Spaghetti Dinner, which raised $340. The money is being donated to the Fisher House, a community program that supports local veterans and their families.
