PR Boys Soccer Team Raises Money for Food Bank
The Pine-Richland Boys Soccer Team came together while in quarantine and brainstormed ways they could help those who were in need during this difficult time. By doing this it gave the team a shared sense of purpose and brought the players together during this pandemic and this time of social distancing.
One player suggested an online bake sale auction and the project took off from there. The team researched several charitable organizations and ultimately voted to donate the money they raised to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Team members prepared 32 delicious items for the bake sale - ranging from brownies to granola to strawberry pie to baklava. These items were then listed on an auction website. The bidding started on May 30th, the day after school let out for summer, and by the time the auction ended the next evening, the team had raised an astounding $1,134 through purchases and donations from their generous friends, relatives, and other patrons.
This money allowed the Food Bank to provide 5,670 meals to people in need during this time. The representatives of the Pine-Richland Boys Soccer Team, Zeyad Amr, Ethan Wojcik, Spencer Sable, Michael Tamburri, and Josh LeDuc presented the Pittsburgh Community Food Bank representative Lydia Vanderhill with the $1,134 that was raised through the online bake sale auction.
