District to Welcome New Administrators

Pine-Richland School District is welcoming two new administrators to the team. On Monday, October 29, 2018, the board approved Mr. Sean Simmons as the district’s director of athletics and Mr. Jacob Minsinger as an assistant principal at the middle school.

Pine-Richland School District Director of Athletics

Mr. Simmons most recently served as the assistant athletic director of student services and sports operations at Robert Morris University in Moon Township since 2004. In his role, he was in charge of student services and sports operations, financial and strategic planning, and responsible for assisting in the hiring and evaluation processes for coaches.
Dr. Brian Miller, PRSD superintendent said the district is pleased to welcome Mr. Simmons and Mr. Minsinger.
“The interview process and selection criteria are grounded in the mission, vision, and values of the district,” said Dr. Miller. “Leadership and effective management are critical to our pursuit of continuous improvement and excellence. Mr. Simmons brings over two decades of experience in athletic administration. He shares a clear vision for the role of athletics in an educational environment and importance of alignment within the overall mission. Mr. Minsinger will transition from his role as a teacher-leader to assistant principal. We look forward to his impact on students, staff, and parents at the middle school.”
From 2000-2004, Mr. Simmons served as the academic coordinator for student-athletes at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, which required him to have detailed knowledge of the governing rules of student-athlete eligibility. Prior, he served as an assistant compliance director of Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ, where he was responsible for team scheduling and serving as an assistant sports programming director.
“One of Pine-Richland’s vision statements is learning occurs inside and outside of the classroom,” said Dr. Michael Pasquinelli, assistant superintendent of secondary education and curriculum. Mr. Simmons will help guide our athletic staff in providing student-athletes with outside of the classroom learning experiences. Through the interview process, he shared a clear understanding of how to prepare students for collegiate level classroom and competition success while at the same understanding the value of simply participating in middle and high school athletics for students not aspiring to compete beyond 12th grade.”
Mr. Simmons earned a Master of Science Degree from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA with a concentration in athletic administration and coaching. In addition, Mr. Simmons has a Bachelor of Science Degree with a concentration in finance. Mr. Simmons is replacing Mr. Josh Shoup, who has accepted another job.
“I am thrilled to join the Pine-Richland School District family in the capacity as director of athletics,” said Mr. Simmons. “I am thankful for the opportunity, as well as the trust and confidence shown to me by the administration. I look forward to connecting to the community especially the student-athletes, faculty, coaches and staff. I am eager to continue the next chapter of my athletic career by building on the rich history of academic and athletic excellence here at Pine-Richland.”

Pine-Richland Middle School Assistant Principal

Assistant Principal
On Monday, the board also approved Mr. Jacob Minsinger to serve as the assistant principal at Pine-Richland Middle School. Mr. Minsinger served as a seventh and eighth grade English language arts teacher at West Allegheny Middle School, where he gained valuable experience aligning the curriculum with the new standards.
He also served on the novel and anthology selection committee and participated in a text-dependent analysis study with the National Center for the Improvement of Educational Assessment and the PA Department of Education. Prior he worked as a long-term substitute seventh-grade reading teacher in the Avonworth School District.
“Mr. Minsinger comes to PR with a strong background in English Language Arts,” said Dr. Pasquinelli.  We look forward to learning inside the classroom from his instructional practices.”
Mr. Minsinger earned a Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction Certification from the University of Pittsburgh School of Education; a Master of Science & Instructional Leadership with principal’s certification from Robert Morris University and a Bachelor of Science in Education in Middle-Level Education.
“I was drawn to Pine Richland because of its mission of focusing on learning for every student every day,” said Mr. Minsinger. “This mission is consistent with what I view as the heart of education. My primary goal in transitioning to the position of middle school assistant principal is to ensure that this mission is carried out for all of our students. I am excited to join this dynamic group of educators as we all work to accomplish this mission together.”
Mr. Minsinger will replace Mr. Ashley Boyers who has accepted another administrative position at another school district.
