New Girls' Wrestling Team Formed
Pine-Richland School District is pleased to announce the formation of a girls’ wrestling team. Open to girls in grades 7-12, the new team began practicing on November 18.
While girls have been able to wrestle as members of the boys’ team, the new team affords girls the opportunity to participate in girls-only events and develop their skills in order to continue their wrestling careers at the collegiate level.
Girls wrestling is one of the fastest-growing high school sports in the country. In Pennsylvania, wrestling has emerging sport status in the PIAA with 73 schools across the state offering it to students. Locally, Pine-Richland joins North Allegheny, Seneca Valley, Mt. Lebanon and Canon-McMillan in offering dedicated girls’ wrestling programs.
Once 100 schools in Pennsylvania form girls’ wrestling teams, it will become an officially sanctioned sport by the PIAA.
