Seventh Graders Win First Place in Western Pennsylvania FIRST Lego League Championship

Congratulations to PRMS seventh graders Piya Dargan and Keerthana Visveish, who, along with five other area students, took first place in the Western Pennsylvania FIRST Lego League Championship. The girls advanced to the Razorback Open Invitational in Arkansas, which will be held in May 2023.

In addition to robotics, the girls were scored on core values and an innovation project that focused on energy. Their team created a Piezo Paw (provisional patent pending), a dog shoe that uses a piezo electric component to harness mechanical energy created by the dog's movement. It has multiple applications and can be applied to domestic and farm animals as a green energy solution. As part of their core values, through various charities, the team helped teach and inspire young girls at a Bhutanese refugee camp and through the Charlie Batch Foundation about STEM opportunities and breaking the glass ceiling for girls in STEM.
