Academic League Hosts Final Competition of Year

Academic League Pine-Richland Middle School students are competing in the final 2018-2019 National Academic League Tournament on February 27, 2019, at 2:30 p.m. in the PRHS Spirit Room.  AL is an academic competition where students answer a series of game questions spanning 22 different subject areas.  The game consists of four quarters.

Within the first quarter, students use strategy to keep possession of a sequence of short-answer questions.  In the second quarter, players learn teamwork as they huddle to answer a complex question in one minute.  Within the third quarter, players tackle complex, real-world problems, and then present their solutions. They score points for organization, content, critical thinking, and presentation. Finally, in the fourth quarter, players join in a fast-paced one-on-one speed contest that can result in a free-for-all.

The 2018-2019 AL is made up of Seventh-graders Hayden Conley, Ella Guo, Ryan Grebinoski, Jack Harris, Michael Lattari (Treasurer), Ben Lyons, Avyukta Nagrath, Dante Pittorino, Tyler Pritchard, Luke Ridgeway, Yash Shah, Phoenix Schwierking, Jenna Shingledecker, Damian Ivanov, Riley Turner, Mantavya Vashishth, Grant Waltrip, and Alex Wesolosky; and eighth-graders Luke Kastner, Ella Shilling, and Madison Weakland (President) Counselor Jennifer Mullaugh and Anne Harris-Crowe serve as the team's sponsors.
