"Top 64" The Brewer Foundation and New York University are proud to announce the “Top 64” teams for the 19th Annual International Public Policy Forum – the first and only contest that gives high school students around the world the opportunity to engage in written and oral debates on issues of public policy. This year’s qualifying round involved submissions from more than 150 teams, representing schools in 19 countries and 28 U.S. states.
Andrew Ni and Amish Sethi and junior Sam Stella will make up the Pine-Richland team that will compete under the direction of Teacher Jeff Byko. Pine-Richland will be competing against a team from Shanghai, China. No travel needed since the contest can be done electronically.
Penn State-Behrend Tournament On Nov. 2, 2019, the PRHS Forensics Team earned three team trophies following a tournament held at Penn State-Behrend in Erie on Nov. 2, 2019. The team took the first-place trophy in speech, second-place trophy in debate, and second-place overall trophy. Earning individual awards included juniors Michael Allessi and Catherine Lee, who earned first and sixth in prose respectively. Sophomore Andrew Ni earned second in original oratory with sophomore Grace Merlack earning fourth, and Katie Hassett earning fifth in the same category. Sophomore Miles Brown earned fourth in extemporaneous speaking; sophomore John Varghese, fourth in Lincoln-Douglas debate; and sophomore Amish Sethi and junior Samuel Stella, fourth in public forum debate.
