This letter is to provide you with updated information regarding celebrations for the Class of 2020; specifically, a traditional graduation ceremony scheduled for July 24th at Pine-Richland Stadium. We find ourselves in a time when the spread of COVID-19 continues to surge locally and nationally. The July 8, 2020 Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) Order closed certain businesses and prohibits outdoor events of more than 50 people. In our previous communication, we had mentioned that the event would most likely not be possible - today we regret to inform you that the event cannot take place. Once again, it is important for all of us to understand that these guidelines are in effect as protections of our continued health and safety.
Although the short-term outlook for a gathering of our class of 350 graduates is not possible, there is potential for the upcoming fall and beyond. High school administrators will be meeting with Senior Class Officers to discuss future plans and intentions for the Class of 2020. Additionally, we will be asking the officers to consider the balance of funds for the Class of 2020 in the student activity account to determine how to best use these funds. We will continue to provide updated information as those decisions are finalized.
We are committed to the health and safety of our staff, students, and community and will continue to monitor the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD), the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PADOH), as well as the Center for Disease Control (CDC) for information and recommendations. Thank you for your continued patience and support as we navigate through these challenges.
As we are quickly moving through the summer months, the lives of our seniors will soon change again as you move on to work, college, technical school, or the military. Please know that we are proud of each of you and we are confident that you are well prepared for whatever lies ahead. We hope to reconnect and hear about your adventures in the fall.
