PR Hosts Another Successful Drill Competition

AFJROTC Pine-Richland High School Air Force JROTC hosted its fourth annual drill competition on Dec. 1, 2018, at Pine-Richland High School.


Pine-Richland earned first overall with the highest points with Knox earning second and McDowell High School third.

  • PR also earned first in the Varsity Unarmed and Academic Quiz Bowl.
  • McDowell also earned first in the Unarmed Exhibition, Armed Exhibition, JV Color Guard, JV Unarmed and Female Color Guard.
  • Knox County earned first in the Varsity Armed.
  • Midview High School earned first in the Varsity Color Guard and JV Armed.
  • North Allegheny earned first in the Inspection category.
  • Pine-Richland also took second in Varsity Armed, JV Unarmed and Inspection with a third-place finish in the Unarmed Exhibition, JV Color Guard, and JV Armed.

In all 12 schools from three states participated. Schools from Ohio participating included Knox County and Midview high schools and Trumbull Career & Technical Center. From PA, Cathedral Prep, Laurel Highlands, North Allegheny Senior, Norwin, Marion Center, McDowell, Pine-Richland, Plum Senior and West Mifflin Area high schools. Parkersburg South High School from Wester Virginia also participated.

"This was our largest yet with about 300 cadets," said Chief Michael Gasparetto.

Local service members served as judges throughout the day.

Major Michael Morrison and Chief Michael Gasparetto oversee the AF-JROTC program, which began in 2010 at Pine-Richland High School. For the first time in August 2018, the program was opened up to all Mars Area High School students grades 9-12 thanks to a cross-town agreement.
