Three Students Compete in PIAAs

Pine-Richland High School Cross Country Team members participated in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) State Championships in Hershey on November 7, 2020.
In the girls races:
  • Eleventh-grade Meredith Price finished 10th overall with a time of 19:43.  She was a medalist.
  • Ninth-grader Angelina Hunkele finished 25th overall with a time of 20:13.  She was a medalist.
In the boys race:
  • Victor Williams finished 29th overall with a time of 17:05.  He missed a medal by 4 places and 6 seconds.
Because of COVID-19, there were four girls races with start times 15 minutes apart, followed by four boys races.  Two races were for team qualifiers and two races were for individual qualifiers.  Results from each race were merged to get overall results. AAA races were in the afternoon.  The races were very competitive.
All 3 had the highest finishes at states since 1998 when Pine-Richland moved up to the large AAA classification. The previous best girls finish was set last year when Natalie McLean finished 38th and was close to medaling.  The previous highest boys finish was 57th set in 2013 by Luke Regan.
The WPIAL results include:

Boys Race
Victor Williams, 11th, 16:30

Girls Race
Meredith Price, 4th, 18:38
Angelina Hunkele, 11th, 19:12
