The Pine-Richland wrestling team opened the 2021-2022 season on December 11, 2021, and claimed third place at the 26th annual Chartiers Houston Invitational. The Rams posted a team score of 142.5 to place third in the 28-team field and bested fellow section teams Mars, Shaler, and North Hills.
The Pine-Richland Rams led by head coach Caleb Kolb crowned two individual champions at the invitational, junior Anthony Ferraro 132 pounds and senior Kelin Laffey at 152 pounds. Kelin won by technical fall in the finals over the 18th ranked wrestler in the state AA, Tyler Berish of Beth-Center by the score of 16-1. While fellow champion Anthony dominated his opponent Joey Sentipal of Burgettstown who was ranked 6th in the state AA and was a 2x state qualifier 5-0.
Four other PR grapplers finished in sixth place or better, including silver medalists freshman Dominic Ferraro. Junior Joey Schneck was third at heavyweight, while freshman Robert Hoy and sophomore Angelo Samuels placed sixth. Thirteen of the fifteen wrestlers who competed won a match with a pin.
The Pine-Richland wrestling team returns to action on December 23rd at home against the Greenville Trojans who were 16-1 last season.
