Wrestler Takes on West Point

Junior student-athlete Nate Lukez, a member of the Pine-Richland Wrestling Team, committed to the United States Military Academy West Point in May of 2019.

Nate, who is about to finish his junior year this spring, has accumulated numerous athletic achievements during his three-year career at Pine-Richland High School. He is a two-time captain of the wreswrestler  tling team and a three-time letter winner. He has a career record of 96 - 24. In addition, he has been selected to the All-Allegheny Selection Team on three occasions. He was also selected to be apart of the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association Academic All-State First Team.

"As proud as I am of Nate's athletic accomplishments,” said Head Wrestling Caleb Kobl. “I am even more proud of his character. He is a bright outstanding student-athlete who has great leadership skills. He will do great things at West Point. We are proud and thrilled that he has the opportunity to attend such a prestigious academy.”

Athletic Director Sean Simmons says this is an example of how learning occurs not only in the classroom but outside the classroom.

“I am very proud of Nate,” said Mr. Simmons. “At Pine-Richland we believe that learning occurs both inside and outside of the classroom. Nate's accomplishments embody that statement to the highest degree. I am thrilled for him and his family"

Nate was named to the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association Academic All-State First Team.
 
 
Nate placed third on May 18, 2019, at the Pennsylvania Freestyle State Championships in Lock Haven. Nate went 6-1 competing at 145-pound in the Junior Division. Placing in the Top 4 qualifies Nate to compete at the National Freestyle Championships in Fargo, ND.
