September 1, 2023

Greetings Parents and Guardians,

I hope your child had a great first week of school as we, too, were filled with anticipation for the upcoming school year. As we embark on a new academic journey, I would like to share some important information about our goals and plans for the academic year. Our building goal this year is focused on each student’s achievement and growth. Teachers will be spending time collaborating on instructional strategies to engage and challenge each child.

Great Opening Week of School
We are thrilled to welcome all students and families back to Pine-Richland Middle School for what promises to be an engaging and invigorating school year.  Our teachers planned a dynamic opening week of school and they have set a positive tone for the school year.  We understand the significance of the first few days of school, and our aim is to make them as welcoming and enriching as possible.

Meet the Teacher Evening–September 7 | 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Mark your calendars.  Our annual Meet the Teacher evening is scheduled for September 7th, from 6:00 to 8:00.  This event provides an excellent opportunity for you to meet your child’s teachers, gain insights into the curriculum and classroom expectations, and foster open lines of communication between home and school.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Changes to Grading Percentages for the 2023-24 School Year
I want to bring to your attention an important change in our grading system for the upcoming school year. We value student assessments. However, we felt it was important for us to adjust our grading so as to not put too much emphasis on two assessments. Specifically, the weighting of our mid-term and final assessments has changed. Previously, these assessments accounted for 20% of a student’s grade. But for the 2023-24 school year, their weight has been adjusted to 10% of the overall grade. We believe that this change will allow for a more comprehensive evaluation of your child’s academic progress.

Thank You and Looking Forward
Your ongoing support as parents and guardians is a foundation of our overall school community and of our success. We appreciate your trust you have placed in us and the collaboration we share to create a positive learning environment. As we begin this journey together, I want to express my gratitude for our ongoing partnership. Together, we can ensure that we are Focused on Learning for Every Student Every Day.

If you have any questions, please know my door is always open. Thank you for partnering with the school to support your child’s education.
