Dear PRMS Students and Families,

Starting on March 1, we launched our new RAMS Way initiative at PRMS called "Words Have Weight, Choose Wisely!" This initiative is about treating others with respect and understanding the power of our words. We began with a school-wide presentation, reminding everyone how important it is to be respectful and kind to each other. We also talked about the non-negotiable words and phrases we all agreed to eliminate from the school community. We set a goal of 0 instances of non-negotiables and our goal remains to be 0.

During March, students caught being respectful will earn a RAMS Way Ticket. We're also providing opportunities for students to reflect on what respect looks like and sounds like by engaging in activities like creating “Words Have Weight” bumper stickers and writing about what our world would be like if people showed more respect.

On March 7, during one of these special lessons, students heard stories from teachers and staff about times when words made a big impact, either lifting them or bringing them down.

We're working hard at PRMS to foster a positive school culture and we hope you can extend the conversation at home too. Here are some questions to facilitate a conversation.

  1. What does the slogan “Words Have Weight: Choose Wisely” mean to you?

  2. Tell me about a time when someone’s words weighed you down. What was said? How did you feel? How did you respond?

  3. When have someone’s words lifted you up? What was said? How did it make you feel? How can you pass along the same feeling?

  4. How have you thought wisely about your word choice toward others?

Your support at home will make a big difference in our initiative. We're excited about our cumulative event on March 21: the Teacher vs. Student Basketball Game! The team with the most RAMS Way tickets will play against the teachers!

Always remember, "Words Have Weight, Choose Wisely!”
