Update #38

September 10, 2020

Greetings to the Pine-Richland Community,

This message is both personal and professional. Earlier today, we learned that our daughter in college has been confirmed positive for COVID-19. She is feeling well and healthy. She is asymptomatic. She has been at college for several weeks.

Our family visited her at college within the last week. During that visit, we were extremely disciplined with the Big 3 of physical distancing, face coverings and hand sanitizing. Upon learning of the positive result, I reached out to the Allegheny County Health Department to discuss the specific details. This approach is part of the health department and district’s contact tracing process.

We learned that there are no concerns or exposure for anyone related to Pine-Richland School District. Because I exercise daily discipline, there are no concerns even for my secretary or colleagues in the district office. However, our family has been asked to quarantine for 14 days from the date of potential exposure. This is based on the fact that we were in a car together on Sunday for a ride that lasted 15 minutes or longer. During that ride, we wore face coverings and had the windows open for ventilation. Nonetheless, we will quarantine as a precaution.

I will begin working from home immediately and will continue to do so throughout this period. Given our team-based approach to work, my colleagues and I will be able to utilize technology in a manner that promotes continuity and collaboration.

I share this update in the interest of candor and transparency.

Respectfully,

Brian R. Miller, Ed.D.
