Important Health & Safety Update: School Buses & Face Coverings

February 28, 2022

Dear Pine-Richland Community,

On Friday, February 25, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
released updated guidance. New metrics defining community COVID levels were published. According to those updates, Allegheny County is recognized as “low transmission.”

Additionally, the CDC made new recommendations regarding masking on school buses. Specifically, the language indicates that "Effective February 25, 2022, CDC does not require wearing of masks on buses or vans operated by public or private school systems."

The current Pine-Richland School District Health and Safety Plan indicated that masks were required on school buses per the federal requirement. Now that the federal requirement has been lifted, students and drivers on school buses are no longer required to wear face coverings.

Students and their families are encouraged to discuss the new guidance and make a decision that best matches their unique needs and circumstances. It is important to note that some individuals must remain masked for their own health, that of a family member, or as a result of quarantine/isolation guidelines associated with contact tracing.

Respectfully,
The Pine-Richland School District
