Dear Pine-Richland High School Families,

We wanted to take an opportunity to share a few important reminders/updates with our families.  The 2023-2024 school year at PRHS is off to a fantastic start.  The positive energy around our campus and within our classrooms is inspiring.  We cannot wait to see the wide variety of accomplishments our students will achieve this year.  Thank you for sending your children to school ready to learn!

During the first week of school, every student in grades 9-12 met with the principal and school counseling teams to talk about the positive school culture that we want to establish for every person in our school. The phrase “It’s cool to be kind” was shared with our students and staff. At the same time, we stressed the importance of avoiding negative and disrespectful comments and actions. We explicitly spoke to students about eliminating bullying and cyberbullying, using racial slurs, making inappropriate sexual or gender-related comments, posting inappropriate images or statements online and cheating/plagiarism. These behaviors have no place at PRHS. We appreciate the support you can provide from home.

In October, we will be opening our fully renovated main gymnasium, auxiliary gymnasium and fitness center.  We are intentionally holding back updated images to help build the excitement as we get ready to unveil two beautiful, multi-functional athletic and academic facilities. Stay tuned…

Similar to many schools across the country, some students at our high school may be experimenting with drugs, alcohol and vapes. Last year, we had Dr. Brophy, an accomplished neuropsychological doctor in this region, present to our students the known facts and dangers of using these substances as a teenager. There was also a community session that Dr. Brophy and other experts facilitated for our families. This year, we plan to continue to offer educational opportunities for students on the dangers of drugs, alcohol and vapes.  We also need your help and encourage you to speak with your children often about these substances and how they can impact their lives in the short- and long-term. We will continue to reinforce those messages at school as well. If your child sees something concerning, the best thing they can do is report it to a trusted adult at our school.

As we look ahead, we are excited about the upcoming Homecoming Week. We encourage you to join us in supporting our community by participating in our district’s Homecoming Week activities (September 18-22).  Please see below for Pine-Richland High School and Middle School theme days:

  • Monday: Jersey Day
  • Tuesday: Twin Day
  • Wednesday: PJ Day
  • Thursday: Groutfit Day (Grey Day)
  • Friday: Green and White Day

We have so much to be thankful for at PRHS. We work in a school district that values academics, athletics, the arts and community, and most importantly, every student and family. This shared focus provides an excellent foundation for our children. Please take some time to discuss these topics at home and feel free to reach out to any of us or our child’s teachers/counselors if you have any questions or concerns.

Have a wonderful school year.
