On Monday, November 17, 2014, Pine-Richland Future Business Leaders of America (PR-FBLA) began its monthly speaker series. PR-FBLA welcomed Mr. Ken Coup, a senior supply chain systems analyst for UPMC, to speak at this month’s meeting. After graduating from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Business Administration, Mr. Coup became a project leader at Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. His experience working with supply chain efficiencies and enhancements has provided him with knowledge that is invaluable to the young professionals in FBLA.

Mr. Coup told students that an important aspect of success is having the proper skills in your toolbox. These skills include time management, communication, and active listening.

Mr. Coup shared that in order to use time efficiently it is important to:

1.    Understand your workload

2.    Prioritize

3.    Take a breath & know when to step away

To communicate successfully with others:

1.    Be clear and concise

2.    Know your audience

3.    Anticipate the question

4.    Don’t underestimate the power of non-verbal communication

Through his clever use of comics and personal anecdotes Mr. Coup conveyed to students the importance of coupling skills for your professional toolbox. Thank you to Mr. Ken Coup for sharing his time and expertise with the students of PR-FBLA.
