Mr. Douglas Murray Advises Students to Find Their Own Success
Finding Your Own Success
On January 8, 2018, Pine-Richland FBLA continued our Speaker Series with Mr. Douglas Murray. Mr. Murray spoke about how people have differing views of success. Mr. Murray made it very clear that success is unique to a person. Someone may find success is a fulfilling career and money, while another finds success on building a family. Therefore, it’s very important to identify what your own success is. Mr. Murray gave the PR FBLA members some tips on doing so. You must start with your end in mind. Where do you see yourself happy years down the line? After finding this you should work backwards, mapping out the path you need to take to get there. Be true to yourself. The only way to find your success is to be honest about what you want. Often people will get sucked into society's standards of success instead of pursuing what they really want. Identify your intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Your intrinsic motivations are the internal feelings you hold, such as the desire to have a secure job. Extrinsic motivations are the physical things that drive you, such as wanting a new car or nicer home. Mr. Murray’s biggest tip, especially for young people, is to experience a variety of things. As high school students, many PR FBLA members aren’t totally sure what they want to do yet. Doing different things will help them to find their niche and what they love to do, as well as build other impressive skills and practical knowledge along the way.
Thank you to Mr. Murray for taking time to speak to Pine-Richland FBLA.
